Overview
Simple Attendance is designed to help teachers manage classroom attendance and compliance records. The app stores account, school, class, student, attendance, lanyard, dress code, and teacher note information needed to provide those features.
Information collected
- Teacher account information such as name and email address
- School, class, period, subject, and classroom location information
- Student identifiers and names entered by the teacher
- Attendance, lanyard, and dress code records created in the app
- Notes a teacher writes about a student's behavior, academic progress, or the interventions the teacher is running, including any follow-up dates the teacher sets. Notes can be written in the iOS app, the Android app, or the web companion.
- App usage information: a randomly generated installation identifier, platform, app version, build number, and daily app-open activity
- Diagnostic information when the app crashes, stops responding, or reports a handled error: the error type and message, the technical stack trace, device model, operating system version, and a short trail of the app actions that preceded the problem. Student identifiers are replaced with a one-way token before they are included in this trail, and the key used to create that token never leaves the device, so diagnostic reports cannot be traced back to a student.
How information is used
Information is used to provide attendance tracking, classroom reports, session history, CSV exports, and account-related app functionality. Student notes are visible only to the teacher who wrote them. A teacher may choose to share an individual note with administrators at their school, and that sharing ends automatically at the close of the school year unless the teacher renews it; a teacher can also stop sharing at any time, and can export or print notes they wrote, which produces a file that is no longer covered by those limits. Administrators cannot edit or delete a teacher's notes. App usage information is used to understand platform adoption, active installations, and version support. Diagnostic information is used only to find and fix crashes and errors in the app. None of it is used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Storage on your device
The iOS and Android apps keep a local copy of your classes, rosters, attendance records, and notes so you can work without a connection. Anything you record is saved on the device first and uploaded when a connection returns, which means a note you write in class exists on that device before it reaches the server. On Android, this local copy is excluded from cloud backup and from device-to-device transfer. On iOS, it is stored in the app's own container and is included in the device's encrypted backup if you have backups turned on. Removing the app deletes the local copy from that device.
Account and data deletion
You can delete your account from Settings in the iOS or Android app, or request deletion by emailing dhohnholt@gmail.com from your account email address. Deleting your account also deletes the classes, attendance sessions and records, and student notes you created. Student records are shared across the district and remain available to other teachers, with the link to you removed. Any account link on app usage records is removed; anonymous aggregate usage records may remain for operational reporting.
Sharing
Simple Attendance does not sell personal information. Data is used to operate the app and is stored with the app's backend service provider.
